Business journalism fellowship available

KNOWLEDGE@WHARTON BUSINESS JOURNALISM FELLOWSHIP

October 12-15, 2008

Deadline: August 8

This fellowship allows one 2008 AAJA member the opportunity to attend
a four-day business journalism seminar, October 12-15, 2008 at The
Wharton School
of the University of Pennsylvania. The fellowship
covers the cost of tuition, materials and meals. The deadline to
apply is August 8.

Improve your journalistic skills, in Florida, for free

AAJA in partnership with The Poynter Institute is offering the second of two fellowships for 2008.

AAJA  members can choose from nine courses in multimedia, TV producing, leadership for the print newsroom, advanced copy editing and more. The courses will be held this year at The Poynter
Institute in St. Petersburg, FL.

Applicants should be full-time employees of a print, broadcast or online news organization, or
journalism educators. Freelancers are welcome to apply. The selected fellows will have transportation costs to The Poynter Institute covered by AAJA. Tuition and hotel costs will be covered by Poynter.

The following is a list of Poynter seminars that would qualify for the AAJA/Poynter Fellowship.

Deadline is 7/1/08.

Thank you!

Thanks to the generosity of AAJA-Portland members Maya Blackmun, Ruth Liao, Phil Manzano, Joann Ng and Elizabeth Suh, the chapter will cover about half of the cost for an Oregon high student to attend AAJA’s J Camp in Chicago in July. The expense per student is $1,000, which the organization covers in full.

Way to go!

Annual AAJA membership meeting

If you’re going to UNITY, mark your calendars!

The 2008 awards for AAJA Member, Chapter and President of the Year will be awarded during the AAJA General Membership meeting, which is part of the UNITY convention in Chicago.

The membership meeting will be held Friday, July 25, from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m. in Room W192C at McCormick Place West.

You’ll also have the opportunity to hear the candidates for national offices give their speeches before polls close at 2 p.m.

The membership meeting is also an ideal venue to air your concerns and share your ideas before the board and the general membership.
